Our Food
The style of our food is local and New Zealand fare, influenced
by tastes from around the world. Created and produced by our
Head Chef Logan McPherson.
Owners Ruth Williams, David Thomas and Angela Rohtmets,
who took ownership of The Palms Restaurant in December 2006,
believe restaurants don’t need to be formal to serve fine food.
Preferring a warm and friendly style of service, that is well informed,
and sensitive to the individual diner’s requirements.
Our Service
Our Front of House Manger arranges regular
front-of-house menu tastings to ensure each of the team is
able to personally describe the flavours and textures of each dish.
Background
The restaurant is housed in the historic Imperial Building in Dunedin,
designed by Mason & Wales and built in 1906.
Originally the building had four stories, with the fifth floor being
added in 1927. The Palms has operated as an eating-place for
almost 70 years. First as tearooms then a vegetarian café
until finally it became a fully licensed restaurant.
The Palms Restaurant is a wonderful place to enjoy a unique
dining experience while enjoying the tranquil setting of the
Queens Gardens in the heart of Dunedin.
It’s a favourite in the Dunedin dining scene, and the strong lunch
and dinner menu is popular among locals and visitors alike.
The Palms focuses on delivering an “experience” which goes
beyond the meal, to encompass atmosphere and service.
